What’s Cooking in Hurleyville

HURLEYVILLE, NY — Two murals will be unveiled at the Sullivan County Museum at 1:00 p.m. on April 25 as part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Frederick Cook’s return from the North Pole. The murals, designed and created by local artists Toni Magnetico and Laurie Kilgore, complement the murals hanging on the outside of the museum, which depict important events in Sullivan County history. The unveiling of the murals will be followed by a talk by Barbara Hillary, the first black woman to reach the North Pole.

There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the building that was once St. Mary’s Mission Church, next to the museum, following the mural unveiling. Ownership of the building was recently transferred from Sullivan County to Hurleyville-Sullivan First. Hurleyville-Sullivan First has already started work to restore the building for use as a community center.
