Butorides virescens in the valley
NARROWSBURG, NY The Upper Delaware Writers Collective (UDWC) will kick off its Green Heron Poetry Project with a reading on Saturday, April 25 at Roasters on Main Street. The program will begin at 3:30 p.m. with collective members reading poems centered on the theme, Create the reality that youre hoping for. An open mic will follow, and door prizes will be awarded.
The UDWC has chosen the green heron (Butorides virescens) as inspiration to showcase creative, constructive expression concerning some critical issues of our time. Native Americans attributed to the green heron the qualities of self-reliance, determination, aggressive adaptability and innate balance. At a time when the area is on the brink of enormous change, the bird seems to embody characteristics important for our own species.
The collective is also accepting submissions as part of the project. Visit upperdelawarewriterscollective.com and click on Events for details.
