Roots & Rhythm set to rock

HONESDALE, PA — The 4th Annual Honesdale Roots and Rhythm, Music and Arts Festival, is set for Saturday, June 20, starting on Main Street and making its way to Honesdale’s Central Park. Co-presented by the Greater Honesdale Partnership and Wayne County Arts Alliance, the free, all-day event runs from 10:30 a.m. until at least 10:00 p.m., offering an eclectic mix of music. This year’s lineup includes Junior Brown “The American Original,” Michelle Willson, Heybale and The Murder Ballads.

“This is Texas coming to Honesdale... Junior Brown is this very, very authentic ‘50s, ‘60s-style Texas music—the same with Heybale. Heybale is a band comprised of main members of very high-profile country bands who played with Merle Haggard, with Johnny Cash. They usually do not leave the state,” said Peter Florance, music committee member.

The festival has grown from in attendance from about 2,500 people in its first year to 5,000 last year.

Volunteers are needed for the hospitality tent, to help sell tickets and for a variety of other jobs. Those interested should call 570/647-1514. A group is also needed to help with recycling.
