Sullivan West winter athletes lauded at awards presentation

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY ? Though warmer days will soon supplant the frostiness of the last few months, memories of the winter sports season at Sullivan West were still very much alive on March 26.

In his opening remarks at the Winter Sports Awards, this writer referenced Thomas Paine’s December 1776 words, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” Paine was referring to his nascent country’s bitter war against the British. But his words echo with current truth in a time when our ravaged economy bodes enormous challenges for the present and the future.

GLENS FALLS, NY—“There’s no place like home” is a tried and true adage, and one that certainly applies to Roscoe’s Fred Ahart in reference to Roscoe.

Trout Town is not only where he lives but the place where he has raised his family and coached for nearly four decades.

When you mention Ahart’s family, you have to include not only his wife Becky, children Maryann Clancy, Ralph Ahart, Michelle Ahart-Bosland, Katie Ahart and Kelly Ahart and his grandchildren, but the legions of former players and coaches that Ahart has built life-long kinships with.
