Quilts celebrate the great outdoors
LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY Where can you find lizards, flowers, fish and owls in April? At a quilt show! On Sunday April 5, Morgan Outdoors at 46 Main Street will unveil its third annual The Great OutdoorsQuilts Celebrating Nature show. The public is invited to the opening reception from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on April 5. There will be a child-friendly Eye Spy game and playful, colorful quilts that make the event a family experience. The show will be on display through April 26.
Each of the 12 quilters wrote a personal statement describing the inspiration for his or her work.
Carolyn Curry of Callicoon made her quilt to hurry the approach of spring, because it reminds me of the pretty birds that nest on my porch and bring their young into the world. Carol Waugh, now living in Denver, CO, said her quilts were inspired by my days living next to Central Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This magical oasis, filled with tall trees and winding paths, provided a stress-free environment to enjoy another side of New Yorknature. Several quilters, including Katharina Litchtman of White Sulphur Springs, are creating new work just for this show.
This unique show, curated with local quilter Kathy Bryant, showcases quilts that celebrate the joy in creating from natures inspiration. The show includes traditional quilt patterns and abstract designs, large and small.
On the final day of the show, Sunday, April 26, the public is invited to take part in a trunk show from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The participants will have an opportunity to show off a quilt theyve made or inherited, to admire the workmanship or pick up techniques from the quilters present.
