Charter signing re-enactment kicks off Sullivan Bicentennial

MONTICELLO, NY — The Sullivan County Legislature and the Sullivan County Bicentennial Steering Committee will host a “Charter Reenactment” ceremony to kick off their year-long celebration in honor of the County’s 200th Birthday. The ceremony will be held next Friday, March 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the hearing room of the legislature at the Government Center.

The ceremony will feature historical re-enactors from the 143rd New York Volunteer Infantry Civil War reenactment group from Liberty, as well as a brief history of the first charter signing in Sullivan County by Sullivan County Historian John Conway.

During this ceremony, the county legislature will officially declare the 2009 Sullivan County Bicentennial Celebration open, in addition to signing a current copy of the county charter, designating an official county flower and encouraging residents to sign personal pledges to help protect and sustain Sullivan County’s environment for the next 200 years.

Music will be provided by Shawn Bailey of Mileses, Lori Orestano-James of Harris and the Tri-Valley High School Chamber Orchestra- Triple Threat.
