Charlie, Snoopy and the gang hit Liberty stage

LIBERTY, NY — The Liberty Performing Arts Club, in conjunction with the Liberty High School Music Department, will present “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Liberty High School auditorium, 125 Buckley Street. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the door.

The musical comedy, which premiered off-Broadway in 1967 and later became a Broadway hit in 1999, is based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. Some 30 Liberty High School students and six staff members are involved in the production either on-stage, in the orchestra or behind the scenes.

High school vocal teacher Tim Hamblin serves as musical director for the production. He is joined by orchestra teacher Scott Glasser, who is the stage director; band teacher Dan McConnell, who will direct the pit orchestra; art teacher Ryan Cormier and technology teacher Mike Diehl, who are in charge of the stage crew; and special education teacher Laurie Maier, who is overseeing the creation of props and costumes.

The Liberty Performing Arts Club, made up of students in grades nine through 12, puts on two productions a year, a play in the fall and a musical comedy in the spring.
