A whiz of a ‘Wiz’ it was

ELDRED, NY — When it comes to spring, the play’s the thing in many of the Sullivan County school districts, especially in March, Music in Our Schools Month. This past weekend, rapt audiences at Eldred were transported over the rainbow, as the school’s drama club delivered a visually entrancing version of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz,” directed by Joshua Poston.

At left, Dorothy (Karlie Contrera) explains to Good Witch Glinda (Ahsley Horton) how her house got swept up into a tornado. Below, Amadur Laput as the Scarecrow, right, sings “If I Only Had a brain,” accompanied by Dorothy, who has suggested that they go together to visit the Wizard of Oz.

See last week’s newspaper for a list of actors and support personnel and visit riverreporter.com for albums of photos from the shows. CDs can be purchased by sending a check for $25 dollars payable to The River Reporter, P.O. Box 150 Narrows burg, NY 12764.

Sullivan West also staged a musical production, “Cinderella.” See page 15.
