Ukrainian egg workshop at WCAA

HONESDALE, PA — You can celebrate spring by learning how to create Ukrainian Easter Eggs on Saturday, March 28 from 2:00 to 5:00 at the new WCAA studio space, located upstairs at 742 Main Street. Artist Hana Gorman, who was born in the Czech Republic and trained in many traditional folk arts, will teach the class.

The traditional handcrafted art of Ukrainian eggs, or Pysanky, starts with eggshells and are decorated in a technique akin to batik. Symbols are applied with melted beeswax using a tool called a kistka. Eggs are then dipped into successively darker dye baths. At the end, the beeswax is melted off to reveal the colorful “artful” egg. Participants will learn traditional patterns and shapes.

The cost of the workshop is $35 for WCAA members and $45 for non-members. Materials will be provided for all participants.
