Winning winter wonders

MONTICELLO, NY - This past fall, Monticello Shoprite and Monticello High School teamed up to recognize student athletes. Each month one female and one male student athlete are chosen as the “Athlete of the Month.”

Honors were taken in December by Nordic skier Erica Concors and basketball player Jesse Kapito. In January, Nordic skier Kaitlyn Fisher and indoor track athlete Shane Jackson were given the nod. February winners were Alpine skiers Richard Heins and Haley Heins.

A winning student must be a varsity athlete, have a high level of athletic performance within a particular month, be in academic good standing and exemplify good citizenship. They receive a $25 gift certificate and have their name placed on a plaque at Monticello Shoprite and at Monticello High School to denote their accomplishment.
