Force of nature affects VanLieu’s potential game winner versus Millbrook

NEW PALTZ, NY—With their eyes red from tears that continued to flow, Tri-Valley players emerged into the lobby at SUNY New Paltz feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders.

They were reeling from a game that had been wrenched from their grasp by the whims of gravity. Down by a single point with just seconds remaining, that inexorable force had exerted itself on Dustin VanLieu’s potential game-winning swirling lay up, which rolled around the razor’s edge of the front rim before dropping into the waiting hands of Millbrook’s Michael Kahn.

End of the line

NEW PALTZ, NY—Just a week ago, eight Sullivan County teams were poised to make a run in this year’s Section Nine basketball tournament. That run came up short for each, as seven of eight were eliminated in first-round games. Tri-Valley’s boys recorded a victory before being ousted in the finals by Millbrook.

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY—“I think I can, I think I can,” said the little blue engine as it pulled with all its might to get over the mountain from hither to yon.

Not wanting to disappoint the anxious children who awaited the deliverance of their Christmas toys, the unflappable locomotive successfully overcame the daunting mountain in Watty Piper’s delightful 1930 children’s story, “The Little Engine That Could,” a tale that never fails to bring smiles to the faces of those that read or hear it.
