Job fair at Bethel Woods

By FRITZ MAYER

BETHEL, NY — With the country in the grips of a historic recession, the news is filled with job fairs across the land where hundreds of applicants turn out for every available position. Not so at the first day of the job fair at Bethel Woods.

Kathryn Fischer, general manager of ARAMARK, the company that runs the concession at Bethel Woods, said only about 35 people turned out on Friday, March 6 for the first day of the Bethel Woods job fair. Candidates will have another chance to apply on March 13 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on March 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The company is looking to hire about 150 people for this summer’s concert season to serve as cashiers, grill cooks and beer-stand attendants.

Fischer said people who live in Sullivan County will likely fill the majority of the positions.

Also coming up at the facility, the Museum at Bethel Woods reopens on Thursday, March 19. And some concerts for the season have already been announced, including the New York Philharmonic on July 11, the Dave Matthews Band on August 5 and Brad Paisley on August 29.
