Eldred to stage charming production of 'The Wizard of Oz'

ELDRED, NY — Ruby red slippers, witches good and bad, Munchkins and the quest by Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman and the Lion to find the Wizard of Oz all come to life on the Eldred stage this weekend as the drama club bring Lyman Frank Baum’s timeless treasure to life.

The play is directed by Joshua Poston and features stunning costumes designed by Sharon Shroeder, choreography by Oliver King assisted by Tara Contrera, lighting by Robert Dufour and a pit orchestra led by Brian Nivison.

Dorothy is played by Karlie Contrera, the Scarecrow is Amador Laput, the Tin Man is Lauren Alves and the Cowardly Lion is Robbie Snyder. Good Witch Glinda is Ashley Horton and the Wicked Witch of the West is Adrian Kirk. The Wizard is Tyler Margotta and the guard is Mat Halloran. Nikko the Commander of the Monkeys is Christian Martinez. Twenty Munchkins join a cast and crew of 18 others in the charming production overseen by advisers Robert Bliefernich and Barbara Balmer.

The play will be staged at the George Ross MacKenzie School in Glen Spey on March 13 at 7:00 p.m., and on March 14 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets cost $8. Students and senior citizens will pay $6. A special price of $4 for senior citizens is in effect for the matinee on March 14. That performance will feature Megan Rausch as Dorothy, Elizabeth Heck as the Scarecrow, Lucy Snyder as the Tin Woodsman and Kristina Drasher as the Cowardly Lion.
