Film series explores movie versions of print works

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance’s spring series of Sunday Night Cinema, called “Page to Screen,” will feature seven movies inspired by literary works, mostly novels. The original authors represented range from England’s William Shakespeare (“The Merchant of Venice,” April 10) to American’s own John Steinbeck (“Cannery Row,” May 3). The program starts on March 22 with “The Decameron,” a 1970 film by Italian director Peir Paulo Pasolini that was adapted from nine stories by Boccacio. This film, like all scheduled foreign language films, will be shown with English subtitles. Films are screened at the Chamber of Commerce meeting room at 32 Commercial Street in Honesdale, one block from Main Street, behind the Wayne County Historical Society..

The programs start at 7:00 p.m. with a brief introduction and conclude with a post-movie discussion. A contribution of $5 per person is suggested, to help support the activities of the arts alliance.
