Janes-Yaffé to perform at DVO fundraiser

BARRYVILLE, NY — The Delaware Valley Opera (DVO) will host its annual luncheon and fundraiser on Saturday, March 14 at the Carriage House on Route 97. The event will feature a musical performance by internationally acclaimed soprano Juliana Janes-Yaffé. Recording producer Arif Mardin (Atlantic Records) has said, “Juliana’s golden voice—and singing that is truly from the heart—makes every one of her performances an unforgettable experience. I am so proud to have worked with her.”

Janes-Yaffé’s program will include Francis Poulenc’s “La courte paille,” a brief and poignant song cycle sung in French. In addition, she will sing songs by Italian composer Stefano Donaudy and renowned American composer Lee Hoiby, who lives in Long Eddy and will be present as honored guest.

Janes-Yaffé has performed as soloist with orchestras and opera companies throughout the U.S. and Europe. She is known for her fine interpretive style in both recital and large concert venues. For 12 years, she was a fully contracted solo artist in the opera houses of Münster, Essen and Stuttgart, Germany, where she also recorded songs of Hoiby, Stefano Donaudy and Arnold Schönberg for Südwestfunk Radio. Alongside her performing activities, Janes-Yaffé is a longtime member of the voice faculties of the Mannes College of Music and New York University, where she has also led the courses in German Lyric Diction for Singers.

Reservations to the fundraising luncheon are required by March 12. Tickets cost $75 per person and include DVO annual membership (valued at $50, tax deductible), a three-course lunch and music. For current DVO members, the cost is $25. To pay by credit card, call 845/252-7576.
