Basketball An octet of Sullivan County basketball teams enter Section Nine tourney SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY—It’s every team’s dream to make it to sectionals. But for many teams that hope often becomes a dream deferred. This week, however, eight Sullivan County teams enter the big dance with hopes that by Sunday, March 8, they lay claim to that elusive jewel, a Section Nine championship. That in and of itself is an awesome catch, and it brings the allure of entering the state tournament and vying against other sectional champions to reach the state final four. The boys state tournament is held at the Glens Falls Civic Center on March 13 and 14. The girls tourney takes place at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy the same weekend.

Track Greats rate states WEST POINT, NY—Winning one of the two top spots in your event at the Section Nine state qualifier to punch a ticket to the state meet at Cornell University on March 7 is a tremendous accomplishment. Unlike the sectionals, where athletes only compete against schools in their size division, the state qualifier is a one-size-fits-all affair. |

SCIL Fear factors LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY—We all know what it feels like to be in the grips of fear, one of the most powerful of human emotions. As adults, our fears often surround what we consider to be “real” threats such as declining health, war, insecurity, poverty, loneliness, loss or failure, just to name a few. But for young children, whose fears are as real to them as those felt by adults, things such as the first day of school, going to the dentist, not knowing what lurks in the dark or taking a bath can be frightful and intimidating. |
