Pops concert to kick off music month
LIBERTY, NY The Liberty Central School (LCS) music department will kick off March as Music in our Schools Month on Tuesday, March 3 with its annual pops concert, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the David E. Panebaker Auditorium at Liberty High School.
This years format will feature the second annual prism concert at Liberty. A prism concert is an interactive concert in which the different participating ensembles perform in different areas of the auditorium, allowing the audience to encounter each groups different moods throughout the evening. The music is continuous, and the performers are set up in different positions throughout the auditorium. The only time there is applause is at the very end of the concert.
In an effort to make our concerts more audience friendly, we have adopted the prism format, said LCS director of music Gary Siegel. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. The program will feature performances by the high school chorus, bands, orchestra, chamber orchestra, jazz ensemble, middle school 7th- and 8th-grade chorus, jazz ensemble and woodwind ensemble. Popular music of all vintages will be featured.
Tim Hamblin will conduct the high school choruses, Dan McConnell will direct the high school band and jazz ensemble, Scott Glasser will lead the orchestra and chamber group, Richard Schacher will conduct the 7th- and 8th-grade chorus and the middle school jazz ensemble, and the woodwind ensembles will be under the direction of Siegel.
The requested donation is $4 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, and $15 for a family of four or more is $15. Proceeds go to benefit the LCS Music Department Scholarship Funds. The snow date is March 5.
