A study questions the benefits

WESTERN UNITED STATESProponents of natural gas exploration often cite economic benefits to the region as a primary reason to support the industry. Indeed, in some areas where the environmental and health consequences of drilling are questioned, it is hard to find someone who will criticize the economic impacts of gas drilling. Such was the case when The River Reporter printed a story about gas drilling in White County, AR.
But a study put forward by the advocacy group Damascus Citizens for Sustainability (DSC) questions the economic benefits to communities that comes with gas drilling in terms of economic development.

Yulan St. Patricks Day parade on hiatus

WHITE LAKE, NYWith President Barack Obama signing the $747 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or stimulus bill, on February 17, its now certain that New York State will be getting about $2.5 billion for education. Its not entirely clear, yet, how and where the money will be spent, but it seems possible that two elementary schools in the Monticello Central School District will remain open for at least two more years.
