From chili to chainsaws

Wurtsboro’s Winter Festival plans to have it all

WURTSBORO, NY — The Wurtsboro Winter Festival will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 at Wurtsboro Airport on State Route 209. The snow date is Sunday, March 8.

The event will feature a chili cook-off hosted by Thunder 102, and Wurtsboro Airport is calling on all Sullivan County fire departments to compete in the event. The Mamakating Rotary will serve up a hot breakfast beginning at 9:00 a.m., and Your Gourmet Guest will follow with hot dogs, hamburgers and more throughout the day.

Festival activities include Kid’s Touch-A-Truck Day with a variety of trucks, snowplows, fire engines and airplanes for kids and adults to explore.

Various youth activities will be available throughout the day courtesy of the Boys and Girls Club of Sullivan County. Visitors can relax by the bonfire with a hot chocolate or adult beverages. There will also be wine tasting, featuring wines from several local wineries.

Visitors will be able to buy, sell or trade used snowmobiles, gear and accessories at the Snow Mobile Swap Meet. Several notable snowmobile clubs and stores will be represented at the festival.

Artists will compete in a chainsaw sculpting contest, sponsored by the Wurtsboro Board of Trade. Prizes will be awarded for the best on-the-spot works of art. Wood sculptures will also be available for purchase.

The Town of Mamakating will be on hand to promote trails, youth sports and other useful information for residents. Wurtsboro Board of Trade will be holding raffles throughout the day, and a gift basket from local businesses will be awarded to a lucky winner.
