SullivanArc presents ‘Expressions 2009’ at the DVAA’s Loft Gallery

NARROWSBURG, NY — Sullivan Arc will present its second annual art exhibit, “Expressions 2009,” from Saturday, March 7 through Saturday, March 28 at the Loft Gallery at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) at 37 Main Street. The show exhibits the extraordinary art that comes as a direct expression from people who very often cannot communicate any other way. There will be an opening reception on March 7 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The show celebrates the organization’s 60th anniversary, as well as marking March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

“Art is their language,” states Vince Sanborn, one of the creative arts specialists on staff at SullivanArc. He has found that by allowing people with disabilities the freedom of artistic expression, not only are their creative tendencies discovered, many are brought out of the shells that they have been hiding in for years.

SullivanArc, with over 25 locations in Sullivan County, is headquartered in Monticello. It was originally founded by a small group of parents as a means to provide education and support for mentally retarded children who were turned away from public schools. Sixty years later, SullivanArc provides services for nearly eight hundred “consumers” of all ages.

Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Most of the body of work will be for sale.

The Art Shoppe, a division of Kristt Company, has provided support for the event and the frames have been donated by The Frame Game of Monticello.

For more information visit or call 845/796-1350, ext.1050.
