Lawmakers oppose NY tourism cuts

Paterson’s proposed budget ‘not smart’

BETHEL, NY—New York State Senator John Bonacic said, “I’ve never seen economic times like this.” But he also said that cutting the state tourism budget by up to 30 percent was not a “smart” thing to do.

He spoke at a meeting at Bethel Woods, sponsored by the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association on January 29, which included tourism business people and representatives from tourism agencies in Sullivan, Delaware, Ulster and Greene counties.

Bethel zoning update completed

Environmental impact statement ahead

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NY—After working for nearly two years on Bethel’s zoning code, a review committee has finished its revisions and is ready to present the changes to the public. The town board met at a special meeting on January 28 to introduce a local law to adopt the new rules.

Local Methodists join nationwide team to assist Texas flood victims

DAMASCUS, PA - The United Methodist Church of Damascus is organizing a group of volunteers to help the victims of Hurricane Ike down in Bridge City, TX. They’ll be helping to reconstruct homes there from March 1 to March 6. Hurricane Ike hit the gulf in September 13, 2008 and United Methodists around the country are sending volunteers.
