Trombonist Reynolds to lead clinic at jazz festival
LIBERTY, NY The Liberty Central School Department of Music will host the 13th annual Liberty Jazz Festival on Saturday, February 7 at 7:00 PM in the Middle School gymnasium. The festival will feature high school and middle school jazz ensembles from Liberty, Monticello and Tri-Valley. The students will also have the opportunity to participate in an afternoon clinic with a renowned jazz educator in a non-competitive, constructive format, according to festival co-chairman and LHS Band Director Dan McConnell.
This years clinician is trombonist Harold Reynolds. Reynolds holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from St. Marys University (San Antonio, TX), and a Masters degree in Performance from Southwest Texas State University. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. Reynolds has been the professor of trombone at Ithaca College since 1988 and has served as the principal trombonist of the Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and performed in the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra and Syracuse Symphony. As a jazz performer, Reynolds has toured with Johnny Carson and played trombone with the Gap Mangione Big Band as well as numerous backup bands for performing artists such as Frank Sinatra Jr., James Brown, Charlie Pride, Clay Aikens, Jerry Lewis, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, Liza Minelli and Johnny Mathis.
The clinic will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. The donation for the concert is $5 with a maximum family cost of $20 per family of four or moreTickets will be on sale at the door.
