Winter food quest: a challenge for wildlife

Winter creates some extra issues for area wildlife. Not only do animals need to survive the cold temperatures, but they also need to find sufficient food to sustain them through the winter. Non-hibernating wildlife have to continue to forage throughout the winter in order to survive and, for many species, to prepare for breeding season when warm weather returns.

Ice fishing for youth at Lake Labar

LACKAWAXEN, PA—The Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual Youth Ice Fishing Derby Day on Saturday, January 31 at the club’s Lake Labar, located near the intersection of Lackawaxen Road and the Cochecton Turnpike.

Continuous sign-up available for Wildlife Habitat Program

PIKE COUNTY, PA — The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has announced a continuous sign-up for the fiscal year 2009 Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP). The WHIP program provides both technical and financial assistance to individuals interested in establishing and improving wildlife habitat on private agricultural lands and non-industrial forestland. The financial assistance can include incentive payments for management activities and cost-share for the installation of certain conservation practices.
