Submissions sought for Route 6 exhibit
REGION The Blue Heron Gallery in Wyalusing, PA is soliciting entries for an exhibit of art and poetry based on the continental highway that runs through Northeast Pennsylvania and on across the country from Cape Cod to California. The show will run from March 15 to May 1, with an opening reception on March 27.
This exhibit is open to all artists over 18, and there is no restriction as to size, media, date of completion or style. Interested artists may submit up to five pieces that relate to Route 6 and the towns and landscapes through which it passes, but keeping the highway as an important aspect of the images. The purpose of the exhibit is to highlight the beauty of the land and historical uniqueness of the villages through which the highway passes, with a subtext of the importance of preserving the special character of rural and urban life and curtailing sprawl or misguided urban renewal that threatens the quality of our American scenes.
The submissions should be sent in jpeg form via e-mail, or on a disc or with 35 mm slides. The entry form available on the gallery web site should be completed and sent in with the $30 entry fee, check payable to Blue Heron Route 6 Show.
Poets also may also submit work for this show that relates the theme. The poets may submit up five works as well, via e-mail to bkeeler@epix.net. The fee for poets is $20 and that should be sent by mail.
The deadline for submissions for both artists and poets is February 15, 2009, but early entries are encouraged to facilitate the compilation of the catalog.
