Shop Rite honors Monticello Athletes of the Month
Store honors athletic excellence, good academic standard and exemplary citizenship
By RICHARD A. ROSS
MONTICELLO, NY - Advancing its partnership with the Monticello School District in an attempt to recognize fine student athletes who are in good academic standing and have modeled exemplary leadership, Shop Rite of Monticello has launched a monthly recognition program.
Prior to the basketball game between the Monties and Valley Central on January 8, the first group of athletes was honored. On hand to present those honors were store director Kevin Perino and advocate Lynca Rivera, a former Monticello High School student.
Fall Athletes of the Month cited for their high level of performance on the field or court were: Dave Wilbur and Jessica Fingers, state qualifiers in cross-country; Colin Bunce and Trevor Goldstein, for their fine play in boys soccer; Chelsea Brennan for excellence in girls soccer; and Eryn Robinson, for her outstanding play in volleyball. Also on hand to honor these students were athletic director Doug Murphy, high school principal Arleene Siegel and superintendent Dr. Patrick Michel.
The students received a $25 dollar gift certificate and will have their names displayed on a plaque in the supermarket and at the high school.
