Sculpting, telescope, snowshoe demonstrations to highlight EagleFest

NARROWSBURG, NY — This year’s eighth annual EagleFest, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, will feature several special demonstrations in addition to live bird presentations, lectures, art shows and film showings.

Mark Crouthamel of Sculpted Ice Works will create two custom eagle ice sculptures, one on the viewing deck on Main Street and one in front of the town hall on Bridge Street. Both will be on display during and after EagleFest (as long as weather permits).

Crouthamel is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island with degrees in Culinary Arts (1990) and Food Service Management & Education(1993). He is a member of the National Ice Carving Association, and has been the owner and lead carver for Sculpted Ice Works, a full-time venture since 2001.

Telescope demonstrations will be offered by High Point Scientific ( highpointscientific.com ), one of the premier optics retailers in the east. The staff at High Point has over 25 years experience in both sport optics and retail astronomy. Their telescope demonstrations will be offered during EagleFest on the viewing deck.

Wood carving demonstrations will be offered by Brian Ruth of Masters of the Chainsaw ( chainsaw.net ). Ruth is a self-taught World Champion sculptor, with over 28 years of extreme art experience and many carving champion titles. His most recent awards include 1st Place Judges Choice, as well as Peoples Choice, at a carving competition in Germany this summer. He will give three 45-minute shows working with three-foot logs, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. The carvings will be available for purchase.

Snowshoe demonstrations will be given by Dan Corrigan of Northeast Wilderness Experience ( newildernessexperience.com ) at the gazebo on the corner of Main and Bridge Streets. Corrigan will come equipped with over 20 pairs of shoes from Atlas snowshoe company, available for demonstration.
