Dancing inauguration night away

MONTICELLO, NY — The Sullivan County Democratic Committee will host a Sullivan County Inaugural Ball on January 20 at the Hype Room at Monticello Raceway from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama. Proceeds from the ball will benefit the non-profit organization Community Unity of Sullivan County. Tickets cost $20 and are available at www.SullivanBall.com.

There will be food and dancing to the sounds of Louis Landon’s Common Ground orchestra. Two big-screen televisions will provide live coverage of the festivities in Washington, DC. A number of surprises are planned for the evening.

“This is a wonderful time to again bring the community together,” said Steven Wilkinson, Chairman of the Sullivan County Democratic Committee. “This is not a political event but a night to celebrate our unity, and what better agency to be a beneficiary of the night’s proceeds but Community Unity of Sullivan County? Our plan has been to create an event that brings people together, no matter what party, to celebrate the change of leadership and to show our support when our country is struggling.”

Community Unity is a coalition of four established Sullivan County organizations working to break the cycles of abuse and need that harm children and impair the quality of life in the county: Sullivan County Court Appointed Special Advocates, The Federation for the Homeless, Rape Intervention Services and Education and the Recovery Center.
