Manor ice carnival celebrates 50th

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY—Livingston Manor will hold its 50th Annual Livingston Manor Rotary Ice Carnival on Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18. Festivities will open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the annual snow sculpture contest, at which Livingston Manor Central School (LMCS) classes in grades nine through 12 and community organizations compete. The theme this year is 19th Century Happenings. Also on Saturday will be the judging of the snow sculptures, and the Ice Carnival Dance in the LMCS gym, starting at 6:45 p.m., at which the festival king and queen will be crowned.

Sunday, starting at 12:00 noon will feature skating of all kinds—races, figure-skating demonstrations and free skating for festival goers—as well as carriage rides, snow shoe demonstrations and more.

Dancing inauguration night away

MONTICELLO, NY—The Sullivan County Democratic Committee will host a Sullivan County Inaugural Ball on January 20 at the Hype Room at Monticello Raceway from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama. Proceeds from the ball will benefit the non-profit organization Community Unity of Sullivan County. Tickets cost $20 and are available at www.SullivanBall.com.

Sculpting, telescope, snowshoe demonstrations

to highlight EagleFest

NARROWSBURG, NY—This year’s eighth annual EagleFest, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, will feature several special demonstrations in addition to live bird presentations, lectures, art shows and film showings.

Mark Crouthamel of Sculpted Ice Works will create two custom eagle ice sculptures, one on the viewing deck on Main Street and one in front of the town hall on Bridge Street. Both will be on display during and after EagleFest (as long as weather permits).
