Adventuring into the solar system, pizza in hand

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — On Saturday, January 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Catskill Astronomy Club and Morgan Outdoors will host a showing of the History Channel’s recent “Universe” series episode “The Inner Planets: Mercury and Venus” at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main Street. This is the first “dinner and a movie” night of 2009, where the film screening is accompanied by pizza, salad and soft drinks, with a break for questions and second helpings.

The “Universe” series is packed with archive footage;loads of gorgeous CG renderings; and recent images from satellites, telescopes and other multi-billion dollar machines, “Universe” offers a comfortable balance of hard facts and easy-to-understand, everyday explanations.

Following the film program, the Catskill Astronomy Club will host an outdoor public viewing session (weather permitting) at a nearby location. Anyone with a budding interest in astronomy will meet Catskill Astronomy Club members and learn about their public viewing events. This program is suitable for children age 10 and up.

The cost is a $7 donation to the Catskill Astronomy Club, $5/person for club members and families of three or more. Advance registration is required by 12:00 noon on January 10.
