Texas firm surveys Pike and more counties

By SANDY LONG

PIKE COUNTY, PA — For those who still doubt that gas drilling will find its way to Pike County, a sure sign that it’s inching closer is now noticeable along Route 6 where pink survey flags are now flapping.

The company performing the survey work is Dawson Geophysical Company of Midland, TX. The firm supplies seismic data to the gas drilling industry for natural gas deposits across the country.

Dawson’s work in Northeast Pennsylvania is focused on potential pockets in the Marcellus Shale. According to its website, the company acquires 2-D, 3-D and multi-component land seismic data for its clients.

The company is permitted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (DOT) to perform its work within the DOT right-of-way. It has been surveying in Wayne and Lackawanna counties and has applied for permits in other NEPA counties as well.

Pink survey flags have been appearing along Route 6 in Pike County, like this one located in Shohola, PA. They are the first evidence of future seismic testing to gather data on natural gas deposits in the region. (Click for larger version)
