Wayne County adopts open records law

HONESDALE, PA - The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has taken another step toward greater transparency of government by enacting a new open records law. The law is called Act Three of 2008, the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law.

The Wayne County Commissioners adopted a local version of the law on December 22, 2008 and named chief clerk Vicky Lamberton to the position of public information officer. The law took effect on January 1, subject to approval by the state Office of Open Records.

In praise of ‘cold comforts’

UPPER DELAWARE REGION—Recent weather in the river valley has been anything but predictable, ranging from magical landscapes transformed by icy jewels to blanketing snows and soaking rains. With the passing of the year’s longest night at the Winter Solstice on December 21, one certainty we can count upon is increasing light, now that the days continually grow longer. Paterson seeks more gambling

Budget crisis sparks expansion plans

ALBANY, NY—It seems likely that New Yorkers will have expanded opportunities to spend money on games of chance in 2009. That’s because Governor David Paterson and other officials in Albany are looking at expanded gambling to help cut the looming $15 billion shortfall projected for the next fiscal year’s budget, which begins on April 1, 2009.
