In praise of ‘cold comforts’

UPPER DELAWARE REGION — Recent weather in the river valley has been anything but predictable, ranging from magical landscapes transformed by icy jewels to blanketing snows and soaking rains. With the passing of the year’s longest night at the Winter Solstice on December 21, one certainty we can count upon is increasing light, now that the days continually grow longer. Another is the wonderful assortment of recreational opportunities available during the winter months.

During January, our readers will find helpful information about the many “cold comforts” available to residents and visitors willing to explore the Upper Delaware Region in its winter finery. One of the best ways to beat the winter blues is to take advantage of winter’s unique outdoor adventures, followed by the comforts associated with indoor activities. Trails like the one depicted above in Pike County’s Promised Land State Park abound throughout the region, offering sanctuary and the chance to get some exercise. See the information presented in this issue to get started down the path leading to a healthier, happier and more prosperous new year.
