Monticello’s Haley Heins was Section Nine’s top girl finisher at the alpine skiing state championships held at Lake Placid. She finished 27th in the slalom and 32nd in the giant slalom. The Lady Panthers won the state scholar athlete title for having the highest average of any girls ski team in the state. (Click for larger version)

Making headlines in all three running seasons, Monticello’s Jessica Fingers shows her speed in the Monties’ winning 3200 relay at the 20th Monticello Games. Fingers finished eighth in the 1500 at states and 11th in the 3000. She was sixth in states during the 2008 cross-country season. (Click for larger version)

Liberty senior Josh Goldstein roared back from a five-stroke round-one deficit to win this year’s Section Nine golf championship with a three over 146. Goldstein broke par for the first time in his career by firing a two under 70 at Caskperkill Country Club to win the tourney by six strokes over Rondout Valley’s Andrew DeForest. It was Goldstein’s first tourney win. (Click for larger version)

Retiring Monticello basketball coach Dick O’Neill is flanked by family, school administrators and board members after receiving a plaque commemorating his 23 years of coaching at the high school. The occasion brought back former players to “The Pit” to honor the iconic coach as his final season wound down. O’Neill guided the Panthers back to sectionals before retiring with 411 career wins.
