County fetes female boxer

MONTICELLO, NY — Sullivan County officials took a break from their budget duties on December 18 to recognize Lisa Tracy, a local boxer who is trying to fight her way to national recognition. She got a good start on November 22, when she won the belt she’s holding at a bout when boxers from the New York metropolitan area staged bouts and Tracy won her weight class.

Next she’ll compete in the Northeast Regional championships, and if successful there, she goes to Denver for the national championships in the spring.

Tracy began boxing again 18 months ago, after leaving the sport nine years ago to have two children. Now, the Harris resident spends many hours a week training, when she’s not busy working at her job in a salon in Liberty.

She trains at the facilities of the International Boxing Academy of Monticello on Pleasant Street.
