SCCC screens live opera from the Met
LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) has begun broadcasting live high-definition transmissions of the Emmy Award-winning series, The Met: Live in HD. The next presentation will be La Rondine, on January 10 at 1:00 p.m. Nicolas Joel directs this new production, which stars operas real-life duo Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna in Puccinis melodic look at love. Marco Armiliato conducts.
The Met: Live in HD series reached more than 935,000 people in the 2007-08 season, the series second. These performances began airing on PBS in March 2008, and eight of these HD performances are currently available on DVD on the EMI and Universal labels. In the 2008-09 season, The Met: Live in HD productions will be seen in more than 850 theaters in 32 countries around the world.
Other operas on the schedule are Orfeo ed Euridice, on January 24; Lucia di Lammermoor, on February 7; Madama Butterfly, on March 7, La Sonnambula, on March 21; and La Cenerentola, on May 9.
Tickets cost $20 for general admission and $12 for students.
