Students to portray their favorite wildlife for EagleFest
NARROWSBURG, NY The eighth annual EagleFest, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2009, will feature a wildlife poster contest for local students for the fifth year.
The Delaware Valley Eagle Alliance, sponsors of EagleFest, holds the contest, which is open to Sullivan West Central School students grades K through two. According to John DiGiorgio, Delaware Valley Eagle Alliance chairman, We are hoping to encourage our youth to become aware, involved and proud of the diverse wildlife and environment we have in our area.
This years Student EagleFest Art Poster Contest is being sponsored by The First National Bank of Jeffersonville (Jeff Bank). Jeff Bank is looking forward to the opportunity of sponsoring EagleFest once again this year, said Brandy Smith, manager of Jeff Banks Narrowsburg Branch. We enjoy having the artwork of area students displayed at Jeff Bank and so does the public.
According to Rebecca Green, Sullivan West Central School Elementary Principal, there will be an estimated 300 students who will participate in the contest. The posters are of heavy 8 1/2-by-11 inch white construction paper, and are being completed during school time. This years theme is My favorite wildlife species.
Submissions are due by January 3, 2009. Judging will be done by current EagleFest featured artist Cheryl Korb, and prior featured artists Bob Lizza and Wanda Gangel. The winning posters will be on display in several of The First National Bank of Jeffersonville branches, including Narrowsburg and Jeffersonville, following the event.
Prizes will be awarded by DiGiorgio, Dr. Kenneth Hilton Superintendent of Schools, Sullivan West Central School District, Green and Smith during the opening ceremony at EagleFest. First prize is a $300 savings bond. Second prize is a $200 savings bond. Third prize is a $100 savings bond. There are three runners-up prizes of $50 savings bonds. In addition, certificates of outstanding merit will be given to each of the participants.
