Sourdough bread By EMILY GRILLO I started making this sourdough bread recipe back in elementary school. We were learning about the movement of early settlers to the west. Without refrigeration, their milk would sour. They never wasted anything because they had so little. Hence the invention of the delicious and tangy sourdough bread with their soured milk. The starter 1 cup milk 1 cup unbleached flour Let the milk stand in a warm room for 24 hours. Stir the flour into the souring milk. Leave for two to five days in a warm room.
