DVES poet starts young

MILFORD, PA — The following poem was written by Jason Zulick last school year when he was in Diana Kudrich’s Delaware Valley Elementary School (DVES) second grade. Jason, who is now a third grader in Gail Atchison’s class at DVES, won first place in his age group (ages six to eight) in a national contest in Taking Care magazine, and won a $100 prize, along with having his poem published in the December 2008 issue.

The Race

By Jason Zulick

Bike riding feels like the wind

blowing in my cold ear

It sounds like a white wolf

howling at night

I see the mountain

with my bright eyes

I taste the victory

when I start a race

It smells like maple syrup in the sky
