Forestburgh Playhouse star sparkles in Amazing Race

FORESTBURGH, NY — Nick Spangler, who spent the summer of 2005 as a member of the resident company at The Forestburgh Playhouse of Sullivan County won the 13th edition of CBS’s The Amazing Race this past Sunday, and the jackpot of $1,000,000. With his sister Starr, a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, Nick beat 11 other teams in the 40,000-mile scramble around the world, starting in Los Angeles and finishing in Portland, OR.

At the Forestburgh Playhouse Spangler played in everything from the main stage productions to the children’s theatre to the post-show cabarets. He was featured as the guitar-playing Doody in “Grease,” as Chino in “West Side Story,” and as Seabee Jenkins in “South Pacific.” He is currently on Broadway starring as the Boy in the current revival of “The Fantasticks” at the Snapple Theatre.

“Nick is enormously gifted and is a great guy – but I didn’t realize he had the competitive skills to win such a wild contest on television,” said Forestburgh producer Norman Duttweiler. “I suspect his exposure on The Amazing Race will do nothing but help his already blossoming career. I’m only hoping we can bring him back to the Playhouse where he got his start.”
