Music abounds in Fallsburg

FALLSBURG, NY — This year, the Fallsburg Junior/Senior High School expanded its usual one-hour winter concert to two hours of entertainment by junior and senior bands and various choruses under the direction of teachers John Lusk and Colleen Barber. Because so many new young voices were participating in the school choral program, Barber created new groups of a select chorus, a men’s chorus and a women’s chorus, in addition to the junior and senior choruses. Soloists included Sophie Marsden, Theresa Miller, Danny Justiniano, Liz Lemitelamy and Tiffany Robinson. Principal Mike Williams added a trumpet solo in “Cantate Deo” from Handel’s “Water Music.” As he has done for many years now, Leon Hilfstein accompanied the chorus on the piano.

The second number by the senior band, “Childhood Hymn,” was dedicated by band director Lusk to his son Mark, who has just gone through open-heart surgery. Mark received a warm ovation from the audience.
