AGNES BERNHARDT

Agnes Bernhardt of Jeffersonville, NY, a homemaker, died December 3, 2008 at Wayne Woodland Manor, Waymart, PA. She was 88.

Daughter of Patrick & Mary Lynch McDermott, she was born November 25, 1920 in Mud Butte, SD. She was the widow of John Bernhardt.

Survivors include two brothers, George McDermott of Callicoon Center, NY and Thomas McDermott of O’Neil, NE; 15 nieces and nephews; and several great nieces & nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband and by her son, Edward John Bernhardt.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, December 6, at 11:00 a.m. at St. George’s Church, Jeffersonville, with Father Ignatius Vu officiating.

Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Youngsville, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.


KATHERINE MCGUIRE EDWARDS

Katherine McGuire Edwards of Grahamsville, NY, a homemaker and lifetime area resident, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008 in Neversink, NY. She was 57.

The daughter of the late Charles and Mary McCormick McGuire, she was born on June 17, 1951 in Liberty, NY.

Survivors include a daughter, Annette Travis of Callicoon, NY; two grandchildren, Kaylee and Erica Travis; two sisters, Margaret Baker of Neversink, NY and Anne Davis and her husband Maynard of Neversink; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Donald.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh, NY.

Burial of ashes will take place in the spring at Rural Cemetery in Grahamsville, NY.


ALICE M. HARTLEY

Alice M. Hartley, a longtime resident of Narrowsburg, NY, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart, PA. She was 91.

Alice was the widow of John Hartley, who passed away in 1994. They were married for 56 years.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier RC Church, Narrowsburg. A family statement reads: “Alice was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a character in her own way. She will be greatly missed.”

She is survived by her five children, Mary O’Leary, Matawan, NJ, Elizabeth Hartley, Beach Lake, PA, Ethel Bansley and husband Donald of Beach Lake, John Hartley and wife Sally of Boca Raton, FL and David Hartley and wife Mary of Narrowsburg; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband; brother Stephen McFadden; and grandson David Hartley.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 9, 2008 at St. Francis Xavier RC Church, Narrowsburg, with Father William Scully officiating.

HUGO J. SABATINI

Hugo J. Sabatini of Turin, NY, former owner of Turin Highland Golf and Country Club, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility. He was 79.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters-in-law, Edward V., Kittery, ME, Michael E. and Mary Sabatini of Turin, NY and Mary Sabatini of St. Augustine, FL; four daughters and a son-in-law, Terese and Ralph Schmidt of Kauneonga Lake; NY, Judith A. Sabatini of Turin, NY, Maria Sabatini and Gill DuRoss of Utica, NY and Ann Bush and Brian Bush of Turin, NY; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Alba Welding of Blackwood, NJ.

He is predeceased by his son, Larry V. Sabatini.

A funeral mass was held on Friday, December 5, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, NY with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private.


HELEN STEPHENSON

Helen Stephenson of Hortonville, NY, a homemaker and lifetime resident of the area, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty, NY. She was 88.

Daughter of the late Christian and Henrietta Rennemann Ferber, she was born August 11, 1920 in Callicoon, NY. She was the widow of F. Allen Stephenson.

She was a member of the Hortonville Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Buddenhagen and husband David of Hortonville and Marilyn Stevens and husband Neil of Homer, NY; grandchildren Cathy Wilcox and husband Brian; Cindy Menges and husband Keith; Gail Stevens-Shourds and husband Glenn; Peter Stevens and wife Diana McFarland and Troy Stevens and his wife, Tina; great-grandchildren Niesha and Robert Wilcox, Kendall Menges, Maggie Stevens-Shourds, Brandon Stevens, Nicholas and Sarah Stevens; one brother, Arthur Ferber and wife Betty; three stepchildren, Jesse Stephenson, Jane Reside and husband Jerome and Joyce Graham; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were on Friday, December 5, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon, NY with the Rev. Nancy Asbury officiating.

Burial was in Hortonville Cemetery, Hortonville.

GEORGE H. YOUNG

George H. Young of North Branch, NY passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 69.

George was born at home in the Town of Fremont, NY. He was a retired truck driver for the Town of Callicoon. He also worked for the former Agway in Callicoon and the Villa Roma Resort for the last 4 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a former member of the North Branch Fire Dept.

A family statement said: “He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed.”

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Arlene Brockner Young; his daughter, Deborah Barrett and husband Frank; his son, Robert Young; grandchildren Heather and Kyle Barrett; sisters Lorraine Snyder and husband Thomas; Marjory Erlwein and husband Joseph; Virginia Lane and husband William; brother Arthur Young; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He is predeceased by his mother, Louise Durasky.

A Graveside Service was held Saturday, December 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, North Branch with Pastor Kit Robison officiating.
