Information sought in cruelty cases

HONESDALE, PA — Two victims of animal cruelty need help from the community. The young cat was left along a Lake Como roadside by the driver of a cream-colored Silverado pickup truck. Emaciated and suffering from a badly broken leg, she was rescued by Dessin Animal Shelter’s Humane Police Officer Marlene Metzger in response to a tip. Initially too thin to undergo surgery, “Eileen” has since had her leg amputated at Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic and will spend the remainder of her life on three legs.

The dog was found walking near Hawley by Metzger, who discovered a length of metal chain embedded in its neck. The chain was surgically removed at the Carbondale Veterinary Hospital.

Animal abuse has been increasing in Wayne County ( see www.riverreporter.com/issues/08-11-27/news-conversations.html ). Readers with information about either case are asked to call Metzger at 570/647-0239. All calls will be kept confidential.
