Sullivan Wests Justin Armstrong to play golf for Division II Goldey-Beacom College Lightning
By RICHARD A. ROSS
WILMINGTON, DE Searching for a college is a daunting task that involves endless research, arduous applications, financial aid forms, visitations and interviews. But all of that is in the rearview mirror for Sullivan Wests Justin Armstrong, who signed a letter of intent on November 15 to play golf for Division II Goldey-Beacom College.
The signing is lightning in a bottle. Lightning is the name of Goldey-Beacoms athletic teams.
Armstrongs stellar golf game will bring a power surge to Goldey-Beacom, which recently had two of its golfers named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Stars.
The Lightning play golf in the fall and the spring. That will help Armstrong improve his game. Armstrong, who has been an integral part of Sullivan Wests golf dynasty, looks forward to his last high school season. The Bulldogs went 12-0 in OCIAA play last spring. It was the second straight year that the team was perfect in division play.
Armstrong made headlines when he eagled hole 14 in the 2007 OCIAA tourney at Swan Lake. Last year, he qualified for the state tournament as he tied for fifth in the Section Nine tourney.
Armstrong hopes to surpass his debut performance at Cornell.
Armstrong will be coached at Goldey-Beacom by Coach Asbell, who spent two seasons as the assistant golf coach at Wilmington College.
