Assessing forest in the wake of storm damage
WAYNE COUNTY, PA In the wake of the storm that occurred a few weeks ago, the Wayne Conservation District has reminded forest landowners in Wayne County to check on their trees. Those who hunt over the next few months will find it an ideal time to assess the health of their forest.
The snowfall in late October produced heavy snow loads on trees with leaves still on them, producing splits where branches connect to the trunk. If excessive damage is found, the landowner may want to consider a Salvage Harvest. This type of harvest would remove the damaged trees while the quality of the wood is still favorable.
