Barryville to host new arts and craft show

By SANDY LONG

BARRYVILLE, NY — In another first, and just in time for holiday shopping, the Barryville Area Arts Association (BAAA) has organized a new fine arts event featuring the works of regional artists and students. Earlier this year, the town saw its first Arts in the Park event, which brought art and music to the town park. The Barryville Holiday Arts and Craft Show will give shoppers access to a range of beautiful items while providing an opportunity to support local artists.

Potter Kim Lust, who helped to organize the event, said that items will be available for as little as eight dollars. “When people think of art shows, they think they need to spend a lot of money. We’ve made it a point to include affordable items,” she said.

One such item will be the handmade notecards crafted by high school students from the newly formed Eldred Central School Art Club. Its 28 members began making the cards in preparation for the show in hopes of earning money toward a museum field trip. In a unique ongoing partnership, members of the BAAA who are professional artists will conduct workshops with the students during the upcoming year, sharing their skills and guidance.

The holiday show will feature fiber arts, jewelry, leatherwork, paintings, photography, pottery, slate art and woodworking. Food will be available and the scene will be enhanced by the classical/flamenco guitar music of BAAA member Peter Kolsar.

The Barryville Arts and Craft Show is scheduled for November 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Carriage House on Route 97 in Barryville, NY. Visit barryvilleareaarts.org for more information.
