Heavy voter turnout in region

NEW YORK AND PENNSYLVANIA — As was the case in just about every region of the country, voter turnout here was heavy on November 4, with lines forming at some polling places that had never seen them before.

The results of the Presidential race in New York State were not a surprise. Most polls in the Empire State showed Senator Barrack Obama going into the race with a substantial lead. The average of state polls on RealClearPolitics.com on November 3 showed Obama ahead of McCain by 29 percent.

In Pennsylvania, the lead was smaller though still significant. The November 3 poll of polls showed Obama with a 7.3 percent lead, but that had tightened a bit from two weeks prior when the lead was closer to 10 percent.

Here are the unofficial results for various contested races with incumbents indicated by an asterisk.
