Obama takes Pennsylvania, the country

HONESDALE, PA - On election night, Democrats crowded into the tiny party headquarters on Main Street in Honesdale, at first worried and biting their collective nails. But a big cheer went up when NBC announced that Barack Obama had won the state of Pennsylvania. From that moment on, things went well for the first African-American Presidential candidate, who had taken 349 Electoral College votes compared to Republican John McCain’s 147 as of press time.

Locally, Obama lost Wayne County by a vote of 12,619 to 9,822 and lost Pike County by a vote of 12,456 to 11,448. In New York’s Sullivan County, Obama won with 15,850 to McCain’s 13,312.
