Brush fire found in the nick of time

LORDS VALLEY, PA — This brush fire was discovered in its early stages by two hikers walking a dog along Glen Eyre Road in Pike County on October 30. In addition to smoke, the hikers noticed a pronounced humming sound emanating from the flames. Unusually heavy snowstorms that blanketed the area only days before caused a power line parallel to the dead-end dirt road to snap. The live line ignited the brush, putting hundreds of acres of state forestlands and several hunting cabins at risk. Local fire and emergency personnel responded to the 911 call and extinguished the blaze before it spread.
