Virgil Goble, who will provide music at the rededication of the Hawley Senior Center as the Robert J. Drake Senior Community Center, was a machine gunner in General Patton’s Third Army during World War II and afterward was an M.P. stationed in Shanghai, China. He fought from Normandy through Germany, and in one instance 1,500 German soldiers surrendered to only him and two other riflemen. He married at the age of 28 to Monica Schwab of Honesdale. Mr. Goble will turn 87 on January 9, 2009.

World War II vet honored in rededication
HAWLEY, PAThere will be a ceremony to rededicate the Hawley Senior Center as the Robert J. Drake Senior Community Center on Monday, November 10. The ceremony will occur from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m., followed by music provided by Virgil Goble, a Lakeville native who enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1942 at the age of 19.

Blues spell-Binder closes PocoNotes season
LAKE ARIEL, PARoy Book Binder, who has been entertaining audiences worldwide since the blues and folk revival of the 1960s, will take the stage at the Waverly Community House (The Comm) for PocoNotes fourth and final acoustic music storytelling event of 2008 on Sunday, November 9. His music combines country blues, ragtime, blue grass and folk.

Art in Sixes back for a fourth year
NARROWSBURG, NYArt in Sixes, an exhibition of small works by local artists, opens at the Alliance Gallery on Saturday, November 15, with a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through December 20.
A highly anticipated annual year-end tradition, Art in Sixes is comprised of works no larger than six inches in any direction. This group exhibition includes a large number of artists in all media including paintings, drawings, sculpture, fibers and more. On view throughout the holiday season, all works of art are for sale.
