The most common hawks found in our area, red-tails, can be found soaring above or perched on a tree branch in search of prey. This hawk was found in the wild with a wing injury that has hampered its flying ability.

The recent Upper Delaware EXPO at the Damascus Elementary School in Damascus, PA on October 25 provided an opportunity for guests to see some magnificent creatures up close and personal, when Bill Streeter of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center gave a presentation of a number of live local raptors including eagles, owls and hawks.

Liberty Kindergartners release butterflies

LIBERTY, NY—Kristine Kratz’s kindergarten class at Liberty Elementary School, shown above, recently released Monarch butterflies they had raised from chrysalises. As an added bonus, their butterflies were tagged by a member of the Audubon Society, Renee Davis. Davis, from Liberty Agway, was contacted by Bill Cogswell, grandfather of one of Kratz’s students, to come and tag butterflies.

Presentation on Pennsylvania’s forests

HONESDALE, PA—A professor of forest resources from Pennsylvania State University will give a presentation on “Pennsylvania’s Forests: Challenges and Opportunities” at the Wayne County Cooperative Extension Association’s annual meeting on Wednesday, November 5, at the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale.
